Is there any way to keep the interior lights from coming on when I remove the key in a 2012 Edge?

Yes, in a way. You're looking for on demand dome Light or interior light defeat.
You can use a utility and an obd dongle with forscan on windows to enable dark car mode used by police vehicles.

I just did this on my 2014. Now, when I park, Key off, door open, no light. The button next to headlight switch becomes a toggle button.

I don't have a screen shot from my edge. This example came from an f150 forum.

Results should be similar. Good luck
